From a management perspective, retention settings, event policies and footage access should be agreed before rollout. A fleet that captures large volumes of video without clear retrieval procedures can create more admin rather than less. Equally, if storage settings are too limited, key footage may be overwritten before a claim is reported.

There is also a tendency to overlook aftercare. Camera systems operate in demanding conditions, and vehicles are not static assets. A well-installed dash camera system should be unobtrusive day to day and dependable when needed. Drivers should not have to work around it. Workshops should not be tracing poor wiring months later. Transport teams should be able to retrieve footage without unnecessary delay. Most importantly, the system should align with the risk profile of the fleet rather than forcing the operation to adapt to a generic product.
